Whenever I have cold or just need a warm alcoholic drink, I like to call upon my favourite drink, the Hot Toddy.
For those who are unfamiliar, a Hot Toddy is a mixed drink of liqueur and water with honey or sugar and spices served hot. The drink is often described as vitamin C for health, the honey to soothe and the alcohol to numb.
As someone who lives an hour away from Scotland and whom is 1-quarter Irish, this is the perfect drink, especially if you research its background. Considering my love for whisky, this is my hot toddy recipe.
You’ll need the following ingredients for this Hot Toddy Recipe
- 2 tablespoons of Scotch or Bourbon whisky.
- A slice of fresh lemon
- Juice of half a lemon
- 1/4 cup of near boiling water
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of honey – I’m not a huge fan of honey so I’ve decided to leave it out of mine.
- Cinnamon stick
Combine the whisky (I’m using the Classic Laddie scotch barley whisky), sugar, honey* and boiling water in a glass and stir gently until completely combined. Squeeze in lemon juice, to taste. Garnish with a slice of lemon and a cinnamon stick*.
Serve either before bed or during a cold, winters night.
